PICO National Network

The Need

As the largest grassroots, faith-based organizing network in the United States, the PICO National Network and its fund development team identified a need for help with grant- and report-writing initiatives in support of gifts from major funders – ranging from the Ford Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies to Open Society Foundations and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

What I Delivered

  • Developed dozens of grants and reports detailing PICO’s community organizing work around a variety of social and economic justice topics including immigration, health care, mass incarceration, gun violence, economic relief and civic engagement.
  • Developed PICO’s annual report, wrote the annual appeal and developed funding appeals from the CEO.
  • Developed materials to supplement funder packages, such as executive overviews about PICO’s Lifelines to Healing campaign, summaries about PICO’s civic engagement/voter engagement strategies, and testimonials about the impacts of PICO’s health care organizing work on individuals.

As a result of these projects, PICO’s fund development team was successful in winning more than 90 percent of the grants it had submitted to funders, and was able to share powerful stories about its organizing work across the country with key funders and partners.
